About the event
Dr. Dustin Gish will present a special lecture on the history and enduring legacy of ancient Roman sculpture, offering insight into one of the most extraordinary "collections of collections" — The Torlonia Marbles.
Assembled by the Torlonia family over three centuries, the Torlonia Marbles form the largest private collection of ancient statues in the world, with more than six hundred works. Long hidden from view, the collection was largely inaccessible to the public from the start of World War II until 2020. This landmark exhibition — the first time many of these masterpieces have traveled to the United States — premiered in Rome, continued to the Louvre in Paris, and will now be seen exclusively at just two American venues: The Art Institute of Chicago and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth.
