Meet your art insider: Silvia Zárate
Silvia is an accomplished art professional with a deep passion for connecting audiences with contemporary art in Mexico and beyond. She holds a Master’s in Arts and Humanities Education from New York University (NYU) and a Master’s in Art History from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), along with a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy from Universidad Panamericana and studies in Philosophy at UNAM. Her career spans both education and curatorial work. In New York City, Silvia contributed to the education departments of the American Museum of Natural History and The Morgan Library. Back in Mexico, she played a key role as associate director of the Interactive Museum of Economy (MIDE) project for the Bank of Mexico and co-founded Terreno Baldío Arte, developing innovative curatorial and arts management initiatives. Silvia has also contributed to scholarship and publishing, co-editing Mexico Today: An Encyclopedia of Life in the Republic (ABC Clio, 2012). She led the establishment of the Javier Marín Foundation, launching programs to support emerging artists, including an artistic residency in Yucatán. Her expertise has been recognized through prestigious programs such as the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program in Arts Administration and Cultural Institutions, and the Brazil: Art, Culture and Politics program at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in partnership with NYU. She further honed her knowledge at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York, specializing in contemporary art and its markets. A founding partner of AURA, a consultancy for art, culture, and creative industries, Silvia also co-founded gil|zárate gallery, dedicated to contemporary photography. Today, she continues to advise art institutions, private collectors, and emerging artists, bringing her insider expertise and network to every project.
